Hi! This is my second year doing Trick or Treat, and I copied a lot of this letter from last year's letter, but 2020 has just been A Lot, okay? I'm Carly, thecarlysutra on AO3, and I'm so happy that this ficswap has brought us together because I legitimately adore these fandoms and these characters, and I know you must like at least one of them, too, or you wouldn't be here. I want to be as helpful to you as possible, so I have tried to be comprehensive and organized, and before I discuss my individual requests, I am going to tell you a little bit about my general likes and dislikes. I just know that as an author the more information I have about my recipient, the easier things are for me. Your mileage may vary, but I'd rather give you too much information than not enough.

I would prefer my actual gift is a story, but am happy with fic or art for anything extra. I requested six fandoms, and I am happy with tricks or treats for all of them.

What I like about hurt/comfort for these pairings is these characters, who maybe aren't very soft themselves and who are afraid of their own vulnerability, finding a safe space to be soft and vulnerable together. There's also a forced intimacy I like if the relationship isn't as developed; the hurt character has to depend on their caretaker, and the caretaker has the responsibility to help the hurt character. It's all good stuff.

DNWs: cheating/infidelity (except for the Thunderheart prompts about having to do it to stay undercover), cruelty, anything having to do with asylums or horrible things done to the mentally ill, sex scenes with excessive attention to bodily fluids

Thunderheart (1992): Walter Crow Horse/Ray Levoi (Hurt Ray)

I love this ship and their snarky, reluctantly fond love. I tend to prefer stories that are a little down the road, not just “what happens after Ray leaves the rez.” Ray’s going to need some time to get his shit together, so give him a few months, y’know?

Ray Levoi does not know what to do with his emotions, except to swallow them. He's terrified to show vulnerability, although he starts to open up once he trusts someone. He also has a very dangerous job. I think a lot about Ray's undercover work, and I wonder what would happen if Ray kept working undercover while dating Walter. He'd have to trust Walter enough to let him take care of him, and that gives me heart eyes. A lot of these tags were picked with that scenario in mind, though of course you can use them however you like.

Top Gun (1986): Iceman Kazansky/Maverick Mitchell (hurt Ice)

I love these boys so much. I really do. They are both so stubborn and competitive, and I love when that breaks enough for them to appreciate each other. To love each other. I will read anything for this: any rating, during canon or future fic, alternate universe, fluff or gritty realism. GIVE ME IT.

Batman Forever (1995): Chase Meridian/Bruce Wayne (Hurt Bruce)

Batman Forever was the first superhero movie I saw in theaters, and I still have a soft spot for it. I love Kilmer's soft, competent Bruce Wayne and the integration of Bruce Wayne and Batman. I love Chase, who is accomplished and confident and goes after what she wants. I think they're a great couple, and I would love to read Bruce letting down his walls around Chase, even if it's just because Batman got his ass kicked and he needs help.

Now for my individual prompts.

Thunderheart (1992): Ray Levoi and Walter Crow Horse

I ask for Thunderheart for Yuletide every year, because I have an endless appetite for these characters and their stories. I love them both individually, and I ship them like mad, but you can write their snarky, reluctantly fond friendship from the movie with no romantic stuff, and I’ll still be thrilled. If they’re together, I tend to prefer stories that are a little down the road, not just “what happens after Ray leaves the rez.” Ray’s going to need some time to get his shit together, so give him a few months, y’know? If you want to write about these characters individually instead, that’s okay. I’m super interested in their backstories, especially Ray’s time working deep cover. I would also adore an AU for this fandom. I don’t really like banal AUs like high school or coffee shop AUs, but try your hand at anything else and I will be delighted.

Top Gun (1986): Tom “Iceman” Kazansky and Pete “Maverick” Mitchell

I love these boys so much. I really do. And I do ship them, but it’s okay if you don’t. (I’d just prefer if you didn’t pair them with other people.) I would love to read about their friendship after they learn to trust each other. I would love to read about them flying together. It’s also okay if you just want to write about one of them; Ice is my favorite, but I love Mav, too, so take it in whatever direction you want. There are some gorgeous, gritty, super realistic stories about what happens to these boys during their time in the service; a few of them were even gifts for me for previous Yuletides. I love those stories, but this year I really need something happy, okay? But beyond that, sky’s the limit. You could write me domestic fluff about these two trying to bake something, or an AU where one of them is the bodyguard assigned to protect the other and then oops they fall in love, or a story from their formative years. Write whatever you like, just give me a happy ending, please. I have had A Year.

Ghost and the Darkness (1996): Colonel John Henry Patterson and Helena Patterson

I love these characters. I love John and his dorky engineerness and his love for his wife and for Africa; I love how all he wants to do is build bridges and drink “I love my wife” juice. I love how he sorts things out. I love that he got to go to Africa and see the animals and learn the language, and that even the abject horribleness of the lion attacks didn’t stop him from getting to be at home in Africa, didn’t take away his smile. I love how supportive Helena is, and how badass she is to travel all that way with an infant in white clothes, and how stupid in love they are with each other.

Something else I love about the movie is this idea that the Ghost and the Darkness are not lions, that they’re something supernatural. And now we come to my prompt. What I would really like from this fandom is more stories of John and his little family going around the world, building bridges, and hunting supernatural things. There are so many myths to choose from! John could hunt vampires in Romania or help selkies in Ireland or battle rusalkas in Russia. Whatever you like; I just want him sorting things out and building bridges and loving his wife.
