never meet your idols, kid

You guys may remember that last year I went to my first Comicon, and you may remember it was a mixed bag, and you may remember several of my extended family members work there. And if you didn't remember, I've just told you.

New information: It has just been announced that at this year's con, Val Kilmer will be one of the headliners. I am having a lot of feelings about this, but they're mostly misgivings; do I really want to go through another con? Do I really want to meet Val? If something negative happens, that would ruin so much for me. On the other hand, I am always denying myself what could be really great things because of this fear of disappointment. I don't know.

Go! You love Val Kilmer! I've never been to Comicon, or any fan convention.

If something "negative" happens, you would just be reminded of what you already know: He's human, like everyone else. Plus, you'll get an interesting celebrity story out of it.

You make good points. I went to my first con last year, and it was just... a lot. Like a real lot. I have a mood disorder, so it's really hard for me to regulate my moods, and anxiety which makes lots of stimuli really overwhelming for me, so I spent most of the time, honestly, wandering around in the periphery or back in the hotel. I did a photo op with that adorable little girl from Stranger Things, and I hardly had to wait in line because I had an ADA pass because of the crazy, but it was still just so rushed and overwhelming, and I don't understand why people do it. My cousin, though, who knew how all this was affecting me but still wanted me to enjoy myself if I could, took me down to star's row at a slow time of day, and I got to meet Millie Bobby Brown and Danny Trejo and Sean Maher one on one, talk to them quietly and get their autographs and shake their hands, stuff like that, and that was far and away the best part of the experience for me. But honestly, I spent 2/3 of the con in my hotel room decompressing.

I can relate! I have bipolar disorder and anxiety, so those kinds of things are hard for me, too. It's not bad if you have someone like your cousin to go with. OTOH, it would be a shame to miss an opportunity to meet Val Kilmer. Then again, you have to do what you can manage at your comfort level.

I vote that you go to the con. It could be a lot of fun.

When I think of Val Kilmer, I also think of Graham Greene's neck.
